Day 1
Airport – Negombo
Meet your private chauffeur at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to Negombo. Check into your hotel, rest after your flight and enjoy an optional sunset walk along the coast.
Distance: Approximately 15 km
Travel time: Approximately 30 minutes
Main experiences: Negombo Beach, lagoon area and local fishing culture
Optional experience: Lagoon boat ride or seafood dinner
Travel tip: Keep the first day relaxed, especially after a long international flight.
Day 2
Negombo – Colombo – Galle
Travel south through Colombo and continue along the coastal expressway to Galle. Explore the atmospheric streets, ramparts and colonial architecture of Galle Fort.
Distance: Approximately 165 km
Travel time: Approximately 3.5 to 4 hours
Main experiences: Colombo highlights, Galle Fort and coastal scenery
Optional experience: Guided walking tour inside Galle Fort
Travel tip: Wear light clothing and comfortable shoes for the fort walk.
Day 3
Galle – Unawatuna – Mirissa
Enjoy a relaxed coastal journey through Unawatuna, Koggala and Weligama before reaching Mirissa. Stop at beaches, viewpoints and fishing villages along the way.
Distance: Approximately 50 km
Travel time: Approximately 1.5 hours plus sightseeing
Main experiences: Unawatuna, Koggala, Weligama and Mirissa
Optional experience: Stilt-fishing photography stop or sunset cruise
Travel tip: Whale-watching departures usually require an early morning start.
Day 4
Mirissa – Tissamaharama – Yala
Travel east through the southern countryside towards Tissamaharama and Yala. Enjoy an afternoon jeep safari in search of elephants, crocodiles, deer, birdlife and, with luck, leopards.
Distance: Approximately 145 km
Travel time: Approximately 3.5 hours
Main experiences: Tissamaharama, Yala National Park and southern wildlife
Optional experience: Private safari jeep with naturalist guide
Travel tip: Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed and depend on natural conditions.
Day 5
Yala – Arugam Bay
Continue along Sri Lanka’s southeastern landscapes to Arugam Bay. Arrive in time to relax beside one of the country’s most famous surfing beaches.
Distance: Approximately 170 km
Travel time: Approximately 4 to 5 hours
Main experiences: Southeastern villages, lagoons and Arugam Bay
Optional experience: Surf lesson, lagoon safari or beach time
Travel tip: Surf conditions vary by season, but the area remains scenic throughout the year.
Day 6
Arugam Bay – Batticaloa – Passikudah
Travel north along the east coast through Batticaloa before reaching Passikudah. Discover lagoons, local communities, cultural landmarks and long stretches of tropical coastline.
Distance: Approximately 150 km
Travel time: Approximately 4 hours plus stops
Main experiences: Batticaloa, Kallady Bridge and Passikudah Beach
Optional experience: Batticaloa lagoon experience
Travel tip: The east coast can feel very different from southern Sri Lanka, with quieter roads and distinct local culture.
Day 7
Passikudah – Trincomalee – Nilaveli
Continue north to Trincomalee and Nilaveli. Visit coastal viewpoints, historic landmarks and sacred sites before settling into your beach hotel.
Distance: Approximately 115 km
Travel time: Approximately 3 hours
Main experiences: Koneswaram Temple, Fort Frederick and Nilaveli
Optional experience: Pigeon Island snorkelling, subject to sea conditions
Travel tip: Boat activities depend on seasonal weather and marine conditions.
Day 8
Trincomalee – Jaffna
Travel from the northeast towards the Jaffna Peninsula. Pass through changing landscapes before arriving in Sri Lanka’s northern cultural capital.
Distance: Approximately 235 km
Travel time: Approximately 5 to 6 hours
Main experiences: Northern countryside, Elephant Pass and Jaffna
Optional experience: Evening visit to Jaffna market
Travel tip: This is one of the longer driving days, so regular comfort stops will be included.
Day 9
Jaffna Cultural Exploration
Explore Jaffna’s distinctive heritage, temples, colonial landmarks, markets and regional cuisine. The day can be tailored around culture, history or island excursions.
Distance: Local sightseeing
Travel time: Flexible
Main experiences: Nallur Temple, Jaffna Fort, library and local markets
Optional experience: Nagadeepa, Delft Island or Point Pedro excursion
Travel tip: Dress respectfully when visiting religious sites.
Day 10
Jaffna – Mannar – Anuradhapura
Travel south through Mannar, stopping at selected coastal, historical and natural landmarks before continuing to the ancient city of Anuradhapura.
Distance: Approximately 290 km
Travel time: Approximately 6 to 7 hours
Main experiences: Mannar Island, baobab tree, coastal scenery and Anuradhapura
Optional experience: Mannar birdwatching stop, depending on season
Travel tip: The route may be adjusted according to road conditions and preferred Mannar stops.
Day 11
Anuradhapura – Mihintale – Sigiriya
Explore the sacred city of Anuradhapura and its ancient stupas, reservoirs and monastic remains. Continue to Mihintale before travelling to the Sigiriya region.
Distance: Approximately 85 km
Travel time: Approximately 2.5 hours plus sightseeing
Main experiences: Anuradhapura, Sri Maha Bodhi, ancient stupas and Mihintale
Optional experience: Licensed cultural guide
Travel tip: Temple visits require shoulders and knees to be covered.
Day 12
Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa – Minneriya
Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress in the morning, then continue towards Polonnaruwa to explore the medieval capital. An optional wildlife safari can be arranged later in the day.
Distance: Approximately 140 km return
Travel time: Approximately 4 hours plus visits
Main experiences: Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa and Minneriya region
Optional experience: Minneriya, Kaudulla or Hurulu Eco Park safari
Travel tip: Start the Sigiriya climb early to avoid stronger midday heat.
Day 13
Dambulla – Matale – Kandy
Visit Dambulla Cave Temple before travelling through Matale towards Kandy. Discover spice-growing areas and enjoy an evening beside Kandy Lake.
Distance: Approximately 95 km
Travel time: Approximately 3 hours plus sightseeing
Main experiences: Dambulla Cave Temple, Matale and Kandy
Optional experience: Cultural dance performance
Travel tip: A guide can help explain the religious art and history inside Dambulla’s caves.
Day 14
Kandy – Nuwara Eliya
Visit selected Kandy attractions before travelling into Sri Lanka’s tea country. Stop at tea estates, waterfalls and mountain viewpoints before reaching Nuwara Eliya.
Distance: Approximately 80 km
Travel time: Approximately 3.5 hours plus stops
Main experiences: Kandy, tea plantations, waterfalls and Nuwara Eliya
Optional experience: Tea factory tour and tasting
Travel tip: Temperatures are cooler in the highlands, especially during the evening.
Day 15
Nuwara Eliya – Ella
Travel through the central highlands to Ella by road or scenic train, subject to ticket availability. Visit Nine Arch Bridge, Ravana Falls or a selected viewpoint.
Distance: Approximately 55 km by road
Travel time: Approximately 2.5 hours, excluding train journey
Main experiences: Hill-country railway, Nine Arch Bridge, Ella Gap and Ravana Falls
Optional experience: Little Adam’s Peak walk
Travel tip: Reserved train tickets are subject to availability and cannot always be guaranteed.
Day 16
Ella – Colombo or Airport
Leave the hill country and travel towards Colombo or Bandaranaike International Airport. The final transfer will be planned around your confirmed flight time or onward accommodation.
Distance: Approximately 205 km to Colombo
Travel time: Approximately 5 to 6 hours
Main experiences: Mountain roads, waterfalls and changing island landscapes
Optional experience: Colombo hotel extension or additional beach stay
Travel tip: A late departure flight or final Colombo night is recommended after this long transfer.
