Your 10-Day Wildlife Safari Expedition
Each day combines private travel, carefully planned safaris, wildlife observation, comfortable accommodation and flexible nature experiences.
Day 1
Arrival in Sri Lanka – Negombo
Meet your private chauffeur at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to Negombo. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a relaxed coastal walk or lagoon-side birdwatching introduction.
Distance: Approximately 15 km
Travel Time: Approximately 20 to 30 minutes
Main Wildlife Experiences: Negombo lagoon, coastal scenery, water birds and fishing communities
Optional: Private lagoon boat ride, sunset birdwatching or seafood dinner
Safari Tip: Keep binoculars and one camera easily accessible during coastal and lagoon stops.
Day 2
Negombo – Wilpattu National Park
Travel north through changing countryside towards Wilpattu. Check into your selected wildlife lodge and enjoy time to settle into the natural surroundings.
Distance: Approximately 165 km
Travel Time: Approximately 4 hours
Main Wildlife Experiences: Rural landscapes, dry-zone scenery and Wilpattu wilderness
Optional: Afternoon nature walk, birdwatching or introductory safari
Safari Tip: Prepare lightweight neutral-coloured clothing and protect camera equipment from dust.
Day 3
Full-Day Wilpattu Wildlife Safari
Join a private jeep safari through Wilpattu National Park. Search for leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, crocodiles, water buffalo and a wide variety of resident and migratory birds.

Travel Time: Flexible
Main Wildlife Experiences: Wilpattu National Park, natural lakes, leopards, sloth bears and birdlife
Optional: Private naturalist, photography-equipped jeep or separate morning and afternoon safaris
Safari Tip: Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, so enjoy the landscape, tracks, calls and animal behaviour as part of the experience.
Day 4
Wilpattu – Sigiriya
Travel towards Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. On arrival near Sigiriya, enjoy a village, nature or birdwatching experience among lakes, paddy fields and forest landscapes.
Distance: Approximately 125 km
Travel Time: Approximately 3 to 3.5 hours
Main Wildlife Experiences: Sigiriya countryside, village scenery, lakes and tropical birdlife
Optional: Village experience, nature walk, Pidurangala sunset or Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Safari Tip: The Sigiriya region is excellent for photographing both wildlife and rural landscapes.
Day 5
Minneriya Elephant Safari – Kandy
Join a private safari in Minneriya, Kaudulla or another suitable nearby national park according to current elephant movements. Continue through Matale to Kandy.
Distance: Approximately 100 km plus safari
Travel Time: Approximately 3 hours plus safari
Main Wildlife Experiences: Wild elephants, dry-zone grasslands, water birds and Matale countryside
Optional: Private naturalist, Sigiriya visit or cultural performance in Kandy
Safari Tip: The best park may change according to rainfall, water levels and seasonal elephant movement.
Day 6
Kandy – Udawalawe
Begin with an optional visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens before travelling south through changing hill-country and lowland landscapes towards Udawalawe.
Distance: Approximately 185 km
Travel Time: Approximately 4.5 to 5 hours
Main Wildlife Experiences: Royal Botanical Gardens, mountain scenery and dry-zone landscapes
Optional: Botanical birdwatching, scenic stops or Elephant Transit Home visit
Safari Tip: The botanical gardens offer excellent opportunities to observe fruit bats, birds and tropical plants.
Day 7
Udawalawe Elephant Safari – Yala
Join an early private safari in Udawalawe National Park, well known for wild elephants, buffalo, deer, crocodiles and birds. Later continue to the Yala region.
Distance: Approximately 100 km plus safari
Travel Time: Approximately 2.5 hours plus safari
Main Wildlife Experiences: Udawalawe National Park, elephants, raptors, crocodiles and open landscapes
Optional: Elephant Transit Home, specialist bird guide or luxury lodge upgrade
Safari Tip: Maintain a respectful distance from elephants and never encourage drivers to block their movement.
Day 8
Yala National Park Wildlife Safari
Explore Yala National Park in a private jeep. Search for leopards, elephants, spotted deer, wild boar, crocodiles, monkeys and a wide variety of birds.
Distance: National park safari programme
Travel Time: Flexible
Main Wildlife Experiences: Yala National Park, leopards, elephants, crocodiles and coastal habitats
Optional: Full-day safari, private naturalist, photography jeep or Bundala birdwatching

Day 9
Morning Safari – Galle
Enjoy an optional final Yala safari before travelling west along the southern coastline to Galle. Explore the historic fort and enjoy a relaxed evening.

Main Wildlife Experiences: Yala wildlife, southern coastline, Galle Fort and coastal sunset

Day 10
Galle – Airport Departure
Enjoy a final morning in Galle before travelling by private chauffeur-driven vehicle to Bandaranaike International Airport.
