Leave Colombo and travel inland towards Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle. Visit Dambulla Cave Temple or enjoy countryside stops before continuing to Sigiriya.

Travel north along Sri Lanka's East Coast towards Trincomalee. Enjoy changing coastal landscapes and settle into your final beach destination.

Travel time: Approximately 5 to 6 hours plus stops
Main experiences: East Coast landscapes, Trincomalee, Koneswaram region and Nilaveli

Travel tip: This is one of the longer road journeys on the itinerary, so comfortable rest and refreshment stops can be included.
Enjoy your final morning before travelling privately from Trincomalee towards Bandaranaike International Airport, Negombo or Colombo according to your onward plans.

Travel Planning
Colombo is warm and humid throughout the year, with rainfall varying according to monsoon conditions.
The Cultural Triangle is generally warmer and drier than the hill country. Early sightseeing is recommended for major outdoor attractions.
Kandy is warm with occasional rain and slightly cooler evenings than the lowlands.
Ella and the central highlands can be cooler, misty and rainy, especially in the evenings and at higher elevations.
East Coast conditions vary seasonally. Surf, swimming and marine activities depend on local weather and sea conditions.
The northeast coast is tropical and warm, with beach and marine conditions changing according to season.
Ancient Heritage
The route includes two nights in the Sigiriya region, giving you time to discover some of Sri Lanka's most important UNESCO World Heritage attractions.
Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress, explore the ancient cave temples of Dambulla and add Polonnaruwa or a wildlife safari according to your interests.
Kandy and Tea Country
Continue through Kandy, Sri Lanka's sacred hill capital, before travelling through tea plantations, waterfalls and mountain landscapes towards Ella.
A scenic train journey can be arranged subject to ticket availability and railway operating conditions.
East Coast Adventure
After leaving Ella, travel towards Arugam Bay, one of Sri Lanka's best-known surfing and beach destinations.
